How to Adopt

Think BEFORE you Adopt....

1. Do you rent? Are you aware of a "pet deposit" and are you willing to pay it?

2. Can you afford a pet? They will need vaccinations, flea and tick control, yearly check ups with your vet, and if you are adopting a young puppy or kitten, it will need to be spayed or neutered at the proper age.

3. Do you plan to start a family soon? Many animals, especially cats, are brought to us because there is a new baby in the house or one on the way. Cats and babies can live together happy and healthy. You are not adopting a "throw-away". Our animals need permanent homes.

4. Do you, or any family members know of any allergies you may already have to animals?

5. Do you really have the time to spend with a new pet? Especially young ones, animals need a lot of attention at first so they will know what you expect from them.

6. Do you really have room in your house? Puppies and kittens grown to adult size, and some need more room to run and play than others.

DON'T ADOPT ON IMPULSE! These are living creatures that can offer you love and companionship for years! Be fair to them, and to yourself, by being sure you are really ready to share your life with them.

Adoption hours at the shelter in Fort Mill are 1pm - 4 pm Tuesday through Sunday.

Adoption hours at Petsmart in Pineville are 11am - 5pm Saturdays and Sundays. PetsMart has now finished the adoption center renovation at this location. Here, we offer seven day adoptions for cats and kittens.

Before adopting a pet, you will need to tell the Humane Society volunteers who your vet is and whether you've had a pet before. You must also pay adoption fees to cover the cost of all vaccinations.

Adoption fees are:

Dogs: puppies $60, adults $80, pure breeds $100.

Cats: kittens $60, adults $85, declawed cats $100.
